AWD (all-wheel drive) and 4WD (four-wheel drive) both send power to all four wheels, but they work differently and suit different driving needs.

## AWD (all-wheel drive)

AWD automatically adjusts power between front and rear wheels based on road conditions. It's always on, requires no switching, and improves traction on wet or snowy pavement. It's great for everyday winter driving, muddy trails, and unpredictable weather. Fuel economy is slightly lower than two-wheel drive because of the added weight and complexity.

## 4WD (four-wheel drive)

4WD is designed for serious off-roading and harsh terrain. You manually engage it (or it engages automatically on newer vehicles) when you need maximum traction-deep snow, rocks, mud, sand. It's more capable off-road but heavier and less efficient on regular roads. Most people don't need it unless they regularly venture into challenging backcountry.

## For most drivers

AWD is the practical choice in cold climates or variable weather. It's a small cost premium for meaningful safety and comfort.
